The LIS Systems Analyst works under the direction of the CIO and in collaboration with the Manager of the testing lab to ensure the operation and integrity of the Lab Information System. Clarifies and documents functional requirements and ensures new features or adaptations to systems are achieved. Monitors use and client satisfaction.


This position ensures the validity of information and provides for continued development and maintenance. The position is responsible for security of access to the systems and maintains compliance with regulatory agencies, federal mandates (HIPAA), medical necessity, and audit criteria/documentation. The Analyst will be expected to participate in the installation, implementation, training and documentation of all phases of laboratory information. This position works in concert with the IT Department to ensure compliant and open communications at all levels of operations. The Analyst works to ensure strategic and operational goals are addressed. This position is responsible for routine hardware maintenance (toner cartridges, ribbons, etc.), assistance with software updates and the coordination of testing.


The LIS Systems Analyst will understand Lab billing compliance within the information system functionality; access and use are consistent with Federal oversight and legal mandates. The LIS Systems Analyst supervises the training and day to day utilization of the Lab Information System and is responsible for compliance with lab testing on all lab testing information systems including PCs. The Analyst has authority to revoke access to information systems and to issue recommendations for discipline to staff for violations of policies and compliance.


The LIS Systems Analyst represents the Laboratory to the public. Greets patients, visitors, physicians, nurses, healthcare workers, sales and technical representatives and others. Answers telephone calls, transfers calls and takes messages in professional and courteous manner. Proficient with computers and office equipment including FAX, copiers, printers, and intercoms. Understands compliance issues for medical necessity and patient confidentiality, consent forms for ABN and release of information. Routine duties may expose the LIS Systems Analyst to potentially infectious substances and hazardous chemicals and fumes. The LIS will utilize personal protective equipment as necessary and will utilize ergonomic functions when lifting, reaching, bending and stooping. Demonstrates critical thinking and close attention to detail. Interacts with Leadership and peers to seek consultation on difficult cases. Assist with quality improvement initiatives, documentation of quality control and complies with HIPAA, and other federal guidelines. Collaborate with the lab managers.



Must be able to perform complex analysis and have a basic working knowledge of techniques, principles, instruments and their interrelationships. Using professional judgment must be able to recognize problems, and work toward solutions. Must be knowledgeable in basic principles of a clinic laboratory and have a working knowledge of Quality Control. Must have basic skill for peripheral maintenance and trouble shooting. Proficient with Microsoft Office and basic computer skills. Certified by a National Certifying Organization, for Laboratory Services, i.e., ASCP, NCA.
