Job Description:

UMC is looking for a Supervisor of Quality Control who will be responsible for the overall supervision of inspection and CMM lab employees and ownership of their department performance.  This person is responsible for managing to the production schedules and assigning work to ensure parts and assemblies are inspected efficiently, on time, within budget, and to specifications.


The primary duties and responsibilities of the Supervisor of Quality Control consist of but are not limited to:

  • Schedule, review, and coordinate departmental activities to optimize schedule attainment with consideration of safety, quality, delivery, and cost
  • Monitor and drive cost reductions, such as waste, scrap, damage, and rework
  • Review, analyze, and act on quality dashboard reports (KPI’s) daily to measure and ensure effectiveness, productivity, and throughput goals are met
  • Partner with Quality Director and Scheduling on issues and obstacles to overcome and work to ensure all machines, equipment, and resources are optimized
  • Participates in interviewing, hiring, and training employees; ensure employees receive adequate training prior to operating any of the inspection equipment and that they follow the standard operating procedures and work instructions
  • Lead by example, regularly provide coaching, mentoring, development opportunities, recognition, and appreciation to employees
  • Communicate expectations, measure, and assess employee performance by giving positive, effective, and professional feedback regularly and during the annual formal review process; address complaints and resolves problems fairly and consistently; partners with management and human resources to administer disciplinary action if needed
  • Plan, assign and direct work; partners with scheduling team to establish production priorities based on customer needs, machine availability, and labor constraints
  • Ensure shift administrative activities such as time reporting, attendance control, time off requests, overtime, etc. are properly implemented and documented
  • Work collaboratively and communicate effectively with cross-functional teams and interfaces with all departments within the organization to achieve goals and objectives
  • Provide technical and analytical troubleshooting input regarding quality related matters
  • Provide effective communication with direct reports through, daily check-in’s, electronic mail and team meetings to address and resolve any issues and concerns
  • Actively participates in daily operational meeting, prepared to communicate what is going well and challenges on the shop floor
  • Follows daily, weekly, and monthly Standard Work and Scheduled routines
  • Coordinates a seamless hand-off of work-in-process to the next shift, works collaboratively and proactively with other supervisors to ensure work continues to run efficiently throughout the shop
  • Identify and assign Continuous Improvement, effective 5S and good housekeeping standards and ensure goals are being met
  • Lead and promote safety initiatives, participates in the company safety committee
  • Exhibits a working knowledge of health and safety, responsible for safety awareness, while upholding and improving the culture of safety within the organization. Identify opportunities for improvement and report potential hazards, unsafe working conditions, unsafe equipment, unsafe acts, near misses and injuries immediately
  • Other tasks as assigned, may perform special projects or assignments as directed by leadership


  • High School Graduate or equivalent
  • Two-year Technical degree and business courses
  • 4+ years’ of progressively responsible manufacturing experience preferred
  • 2-5 years of leadership experience with teams of 10 employees or greater preferred
  • 4+ years’ experience with precision CMM and inspection equipment, processes, and systems in versatile manufacturing environments strongly preferred


  • Identifies and analyzes problems; distinguishes between relevant and irrelevant information to make logical decisions; provides solutions to individual and organizational problems
  • Able prioritize work, meet deadlines, make effective and timely decisions and work with a sense of urgency
  • Ability to analyze production data/reports to assess impact on throughput, efficiencies, and other Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s)
  • Strong business acumen, along with technical understanding of quality processes
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications preferred
  • Ability to express ideas, share information, listen actively and demonstrate professionalism in written and verbal communications
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling employee relation situations
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Power Point)
